King of Scars is about King Nikolai Lantsov and I really liked reading about him. I have said it before that I like the writing style of Leigh Bardugo and the world-building she does. Grishaverse is incredible and there are so much more in Grisha history that we learn in this book. While reading the book I enjoyed more the chapters with Nikolai and Zoya. Zoya has become one of my favourite characters after reading King of Scars. On the other hand I didn't like Nina's chapters and I thought that they weren't necessary to the book. They didn't add something to the plot in my opinion. That being said the rest of the book was excellent. Nikolai and Zoya's storyline was action-packed and had me turning the pages to see what will happen next. The ending was really good and made the whole story more interesting as I honestly wasn't expecting it. On to book two, Rule of Wolves, now.

The second book in the Six of Crows duology was as good as the first one. Full of action, with the same incredible characters and another impossible heist/mission again. In this book we learn more about our characters' past and we get to see some of the Shadow and Bone characters as well. In Crooked Kingdom it took me a little longer to get into the story but when I did I was hooked. There are twists and turns that I wasn't expecting. I liked that the ending was bittersweet and I loved Kaz and Inej's scene. Highly recommend it if you haven't read it already.

I have said it for other books too, but I should have read Six of Crows earlier. I finished it this month and it is certainly a five - star read for me. I loved the story of an impossible heist and I really liked the setting of it. Ketterdam sounds like a lace I would like to see. It has excellent world-building and the story is dark, action packed and with magic and some romance. I also really liked the characters, they are so mixed up in their own way. I love how morally grey all of them are. I was hooked from the beginning and it continued until the last page with many plot twists. I also liked the mention of characters from Shadow and Bone. My favourite characters are Inej and Kaz and I really enjoyed their interactions. Inej has gone through a lot but she has come out strong. Kaz is a very complex character. he is manipulative, smart and an antihero. He also cares for his friends even if he doesn't admit it. I love The Dregs as a group. Their relationships and dynamics are everything. Highly recommend it but I believe most of you have already read it.

This is an atmospheric collection of short stories. They are full with revenge, sacrifice, love and betrayal. All of them are set in the Grishaverse world and are something like the fairytales of this world but more dark than usual fairytales. There are six stories and all of them all beautifully illustrated. My favourite was Ayanna and the Thorn Wood and my least favourite was The Soldier Prince.

I loved this book as much as the other works of V. E. Schwab that I have read so far. First of all, I love the setting of the book, a small town near a moor where nothing ever changes. It feels so atmospheric and mysterious at the same time. The book reads like a fairytale and the story centers around folktales about witches and strange things that begin to happen in the town of Near. I loved the writing and the characters. Lexi is so caring for her family but also smart, strong and determined to find the truth. Highly recommend it!

Well, The Darkling is back! I enjoyed this one more than book two but I wasn't ready and I would have preferred a different ending. To be honest the first part of the book was a little boring but then it picked up and was full of action. I understand that the ending had to be that way because it is fair but... Leigh Bardugo created a wonderful and dark world with characters that felt real, even the villain of the story.

The second book in the Grishaverse world is as fascinating as the first one I liked how the story continues but to be honest I needed more Darkling in it. What can I say , he has become my favourite. We are introduced to a new character in this book. A notorious privateer who will play a great role in the story. I liked that in this book the characters evolved , with the best example being Alina who became a strong woman with a power to save her country. Mal on the other hand continues to be of no interest to me. And then we come to Nikolai Lantsov who has the whole package. He is smart, funny, charming, cunning and a true fighter for his country.

I love this world and the stories Sapkowski writes. In this collection we got to see more of Geralt's character and his relationship with Yennefer. We saw characters from The Last Wish but we were introduced to new ones as well. The relationship between Geralt and Ciri is like a father - daughter one and I really liked how this was shown. My favourite story is The Sword of Destiny where Geralt meets his child of destiny, Ciri. I cannot wait to pick up the first full novel.

I was expecting a lot from this book and thankfully I wasn't disappointed. It became a new favourite. I haven't read The Night Circus and I wasn't sure what to expect from the writing style of the author. After finishing the book I can say that I love her writing. It's beautiful and lyrical / whimsical. The book is written in a different way than usual. There are chapters with stories from the books mentioned in the main plot that are inserted throughout the book. These stories make the main story more interesting and more understandable. It's easier to follow the main story . I really liked the book. It is different, confusing at times but very well done as well. The book is hard to describe. It's an hymn to literature and storytelling. It's a whimsical book featuring an underground labyrinth library full of secrets that are never fully revealed. The Starless Sea isn't for everyone as Erin Morgenstern's writing style isn't for everyone. It's definitely for me. The book left me confused at the end but I don't mind.

The story is engaging and addictive but not from the beginning. At least it wasn't for me. But as the story continued I really enjoyed it. I liked the main characters of the book. Harper, Rhen and Grey are a great combination. Harper is a strong female character with cerebral oalsy that she accepts and it doesn't affect her. Rhen is sensitive and caring but that doesn't show from the beginnig, as it was expected. The author did a great work building the story and the world of the book, with its characters and romance. I will definitely continue with the series. In fact I have already read book two

As with all Victoria Schwab's books that I have read so far, I loved this one too. I liked more the second book than the first. I really like the way the story goes and how despite my guesses I was still surprised by the plot. Wes is one of my favourite characters. The world building is amazing and different from what we are used to in fantasy books. This book is filled with suspense and mystery and it can get creepy some times. Also, Victoria knows how to make a good villain and the one in these books was no exception. I like that every new book V. E. Schawb writes is completely different from the others she has written. You never know what to expect from her books and that's a good thing for me.

It is actually a prequel to the main series as we follow King Maxim Maresh when he was still a prince. We are back in the world of Shades of Magic and its incredible magic system. When I finished the series I wanted more and this graphic novel fulfills this need. It was nice to read about the past of King Maxim Maresh and his adventures that gave him the title The Steel Prince. The story was spot on and the illustrations, done by Andrea Olimpieri were incredible.

I have heard so many things about this book and thankfully it didn't disappoint. It follows an angel and demon who have been friends for centuries and recounts their experiences in the days leading up to the apocalypse. I loved the story of the end of the world and how it was executed by the authors. It is well-written, clever and funny. The characters are lovely and funny. I am curious to see how the TV adaptation has interpreted the story

I don't know what to say about this book. One thing that is certain is that I liked it. It's a post apocalyptic novel where we follow a father and his son as they walk down the road towards the south. We don't know what caused the apocalypse or where exactly they are. We only know that they need to survive and go to the coast. We get to observe their relationship developing through time and through the problems they face. It is well written and in a different kind of way.

In this part of Little Women we follow the four March sisters as they grow older and try to find where they belong in the world. It was nice to see how the girls transformed to young women and lived their lives and their characters developed. I really enjoyed reading it but I prefer the first part when the sisters where still little girls.

I found Vengeful to be more fascinating than Vicious. I loved the plot and how everything unraveled. By now it is not a secret that I love Victoria's writing. She tells us the story using time as a way to increase our suspense about the plot and the "heroes". I really liked the new characters that were introduced in this book, especially Marcela, but I was still rooting for Victor and his friends. The ending didn't disappoint me and I would like to see more in this world of EOs. My wish is getting granted as V. E. Schwab writes a comic based on this world called Extraordinary (coming out in 2021 by Titan Comics).

Well, this is one of my favourite series and I loved this book and of course I need more! It was nice to get back to this magical world and see again my favourite characters. You do not need any words here. I love Stephanie's writing and her world building. Finale had all the elements I wanted from a story, it was full of twists and turns and unexpected surprises. Tella and Legend continue to be my favourites and I want to read more stories about them.

Last year I read The Cruel Prince and really enjoyed it,now it was about time to continue with the series. In The Wicked King we see Jude as she navigates the constantly shifting political alliances in Faerie, while at the same time she has to deal with Cardan as well. I liked this one more than the previous one. In fact I loved it! It has more intrigues and twists and is full of surprises. It has hooked me from the beginning until the very end. The world-building and the characters evolved perfectly since book one. Cardan and Jude just got better for me. The ending of the book is everything. It is wicked as the title of the book suggests. It made me angry and left me full of questions. Now I need to read book three asap.

This is a book that I liked. Not because of its theme of course but because of the way the author depicted the events and the crimes that happened during the Osage Murders. It is well written and throughout the book you can see that the author has done very good and thorough research on the matter. This was apart of American History that I haven't heard of and I am glad that this book gave me the opportunity to learn about

Περιλαμβάνει τα στάδια γέννησης, εξέλιξης και θανάτου των άστρων κατά κύριο λόγο. Είναι γραμμένο απλά για να γίνεται κατανοητό από όλους . Σε ορισμένα σημεία μου έδινε την εντύπωση ότι διάβαζα ένα εγχειριδιο και όχι ένα βιβλίο εκλαϊκευμένης επιστήμης.

Πρόκειται για ακόμα ένα βιβλίο απο τη σειρά " Μιλώντας..." των Εκδόσεων Πατάκη. Αυτή τη φορά όμως δεν ενθουσιαστηκα τόσο όσο με τα υπόλοιπα που έχω διαβάσει. Το θέμα σε αυτό το βιβλίο είναι η οικονομια και ο συγγραφέας προσπαθεί να την κάνει κατανοητή στυς νέους μέσα από παραδείγματα. Ϊσως να φταίει το γεγονός ότι οι σπουδές μου είναι στα οικονομικά είτε ο τρόπος γραφής του συγγραφέα, αλλά κάτι δε μου πήγε καλά.

When I picked up Circe I didn't know what to expect. The only thing I knew was it's general theme Circe's myth. I really liked the way Madeline Miller told us the story of Circe through her eyes and not the others around her. We saw the real Circe and what had happened to her from her childhood throughout the years. All these explained why she acted like this. If you enjoy Greek Mythology, complex heroines and adventures then this book is for you.

Well, I loved this book! To be honest not from the beginning but as it moved on I loved it even more and I couldn't put it down. It's a page-turner with a wonderful and unique magic system that is very well explained. I loved Renata, the main character, and the way her personality showed throughout the book. She evolves from what others tell her she is, to who she really is and who she wants to be. It has many plot twists which were unexpected and left me open-mouthed. I love the way Zoraida Cordova writes the story and how everything that happens is so unexpected.

Το Confiteor είναι ένα βιβλίο για το οποίο είχα ακούσει πολλά καλά λόγια, τα οποία ευτυχώς δε διαψεύτηκαν. Ο τρόπος με τον οποίο ο συγγραφέας αφηγήθηκε την ιστορία, ενώ στην αρχή με μπέρδεψε λίγο καθώς προχωρούσε το βιβλίο μου άρεσε όλο και περισσότερο. Κατάφερνε να εξηγεί και να μου λύνει όλες τις απορίες καθώς προχωρούσε η ιστορία. Η πλοκή του βιβλίου εξελίσσεται εκπληκτικά και το ίδιο συμβαίνει και με τους χαρακτήρες του. Είχα αρκετό καιρό να διαβάσω ένα τόσο καλό μυθιστόρημα. Ένα μυθιστόρημα που θα με συναρπάσει και θα με γοητεύσει και που θα στεναχωρηθώ που τελείωσε.

Το βιβλίο του Anthony Doerr έχει κερδίσει το Βραβείο Pullitzer 2015 και το Βραβείο Carnegie 2015, ενώ ήταν #1 στους New York Times. Πέρα όμως από τα βραβεία που έχει συγκεντρώσει, το Όλο το φως που δεν μπορούμε να δούμε είναι ένα εκπληκτικό βιβλίο. Ο συγγραφέας περιγράφει με τρόπο μαγικό τις περιπέτειες των ηρώων του κατά τη διάρκεια των γεγονότων. Η αφήγηση κυλάει τόσο όμορφα και οι απαραίτητες αλλαγές στο χρονικό πλαίσιο κάνουν το βιβλίο ένα πραγματικό page turner. Ένα βιβλίο που δεν θέλεις να το αφήσεις μέχρι να δεις πως ολοκληρώνονται οι ιστορίες που ξετυλίγονται παράλληλα. Οι ιστορίες τόσο της Μαρί-Λορ όσο και του Βέρνερ λέγονται με ευαισθησία και συμπάθεια από το συγγραφέα καθώς κάθε ένας σπρώχνεται σε ένα μονοπάτι το οποίο καθορίζεται από τις προσωπικές τους καταστάσεις και από τον καταστροφικό πόλεμο.

Μου πήρε αρκετό καιρό να ολοκληρώσω το διάβασμα του βιβλίου της Hanya Yanagihara, A little Life αλλά στο τέλος το άξιζε. Στο βιβλίο παρακολουθουμε τεσσερις φίλους που ζουν στη Νέα Υόρκη προσπαθώντας ο καθένας με τον δικό του τρόπο να προχωρήσει. Καθώς προχωρά η αφήγηση ξεδιπλώνεται ο χαρακτήρας του καθενός καθώς και ο τρόπος με τον οποίο συνδέονται μεταξύ τους. Βλέπουμε σταδιακά και την ιστορία του καθενός πριν γίνουν φίλοι στο πανεπιστήμιο αλλά και κάποιες ιστορίες όσο βρίσκονταν εκεί. Ο πιο περίπλοκος χαρακτήρας φαίνεται να είναι ο Jude, ο οποίος δεν είναι τόσο ανοιχτός όσο οι άλλοι και κρύβει κάποια μυστικά σχετικά με το παρελθόν του (πριν γνωρίσει τους υπόλοιπους). Η προσοχή όλων φαίνεται να είναι στραμμένη σε αυτόν. Πιο δεμένος είναι με τον Willem με τον οποίο συγκατοικούν και με τον οποίο έχει μοιραστεί περισσότερα και θα συνεχίσει να μοιράζεται. Μου άρεσε που την ιστορία αφηγείται καθένας από τους ήρωες χωριστά από τη δική του οπτική γωνία που έγιναν τα γεγονότα, παραθέτοντας τόσο τα γεγονότα όσο και τις σκέψεις και τα συναισθήματά του. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο εκπληκτικό αλλά ταυτόχρονα πολύ στενάχωρο. Περιείχε αρκετές σκηνές οι οποίες ήταν πολύ δύσκολο να τις διαβάσεις χωρίς να στεναχωρηθείς αλλά και χωρίς να ανατριχιάσεις. Είναι ένα δύσκολο βιβλίο με πολλές δύσκολες και έντονες σκηνές. Στο βιβλίο περιγράφεται εκπληκτικά η έννοια της φιλίας μεταξύ των ηρώων αλλά και οι επιπτώσεις και η σημασία της κακομεταχείρισης Το μέγεθος του βιβλίου δεν ήταν κάτι που με αποθάρρυνε. Αντίθετα θα έλεγα. Από ένα σημείο και μετά ήθελα να μάθω τι συμβαίνει αλλά και τι συνέβη με τη ζωή τυο Jude που διάβαζα ασταμάτητα. Είναι ένα βιβλίο που η ιστορία του με έκανε να σκεφτώ

When I read the description of the book, I immediately thought that this book would be atmospheric and full of adventure. And of course I was right. This is a fairytale based on the legends of Russia and creates an atmosphere that promises magic and horrors. The writer manages to capture the uncertainty and the superstitions in an amazing way. The characters of the book are described very well and the story that is evolving is both fantastic and magical. The Bear & The Nightingale is a book I enjoyed up to its last page as it brought me into a magical world.

Tο Caraval της Stephanie Garber είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου βιβλία που διάβασα μέσα στο 2017. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο που δε θέλεις να αφήσεις από τα χέρια σου μέχρι να δεις τι θα συμβεί και όταν το βιβλίο τελειώσει θέλεις κι άλλο. Το Caraval περιέχει όλα όσα μου αρέσουν σε ένα βιβλίο. Έχει αγωνία και περιπέτεια αλλά και λίγο love story και φυσικά έχει μαγεία, αλλά όχι με την κλασική της έννοια. Είναι εκπληκτικό και περιμένω πως και πως τη συνέχειά του που θα κυκλοφορήσει το Μάιο με τίτλο Legendary. Ακούγεται αρκετά περίεργο αλλά πιστέψτε με δεν είναι. Το βιβλίο περιέχει αρκετά plot twists που σε κρατάνε σε αγωνία. Έχει πολύ όμορφες περιγραφές και η Stephanie Garber γράφει πολύ όμορφα. Το βιβλίο τελειώνει με τέτοιο τρόπο που σε κάνει να περιμένει τη συνέχειά του.

Ο Neil Gaiman είναι γνωστός σε όλους για τα βιβλία του και για τον υπέροχο τρόπο που εξιστορεί τις ιστορίες του. Tο βιβλίο Norse Mythology, όπου οι ιστορίες δεν είναι δικές του αλλά ο τρόπος που τις διηγείται τις κάνει άμεσα δικές του και τους δίνει νέα πνοή. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο γεμάτο με ιστορίες από τη Σκανδιναβική μυθολογία. Από τη μυθολογία που έχει εμπνεύσει τόσους συγγραφείς, όπως ο J.R.R. Tolkien, George R. R. Martin αλλά ακόμα και τους ήρωες της Marvel. Ο Neil Gaiman αντλεί έμπνευση από τις αυθεντικές ιστορίες και μας παρουσιάζει μια νέα, μοντέρνα και συναρπαστική απόδοση αυτών των σκανδιναβικών μύθων. Μέσα από τις σελίδες του βιβλίου, ο Odin και ο Thor, ο Loki και η Freya, ζωντανέυουν με συναρπαστικό τρόπο. Είναι οξύθυμοι, βίαιοι, παθιασμένοι και μας μεταφέρουν από την αρχή των πάντων μέχρι το Ragnarok, το τέλος των θεών και τη γέννηση μιας νέας εποχής. Μου άρεσε πολύ και το Norse Mythology και ευχαριστήθηκα ιδιαίτερα το γεγονός ότι έμαθα πράγματα για τη Σκανδιναβική μυθολογία που δε γνώριζα καθόλου ή που γνώριζα επιγραμματικά. Το συστήνω σε όλους.

Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο που θα μπορούσαμε να κατατάξουμε στην κατηγορία του science fiction αλλά και του fantasy και το οποίο περιέχει πολλές αναφορές στη δεκαετία των 80s και πιο συγκεκριμένα στην ποπ κουλτούρα της εποχής. Αρκετές ήταν οι αναφορές που δεν γνώριζα μιας και είμαι περισσότερο παιδί των 90s παρά των 80s αλλά παρόλα αυτά το βιβλίο δε με κούρασε αλλά μάλλον το αντίθετο. Το Ready Player One με συνεπήρε και μου πρόσφερε και κάποιες στιγμές νοσταλγίας καθώς το διάβαζα. Μου άρεσε πολύ ο κόσμος που δημιούργησε ο Ernest Cline μέσα στο βιβλίο του αλλά και οι χαρακτήρες του.

Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο με τα απομνημονεύματα της Brunhilde Pomsel, η οποία ήταν μια από τις γραμματείς του Γκέμπελς στο Υπουργείο Προπαγάνδας κατά την περίοδο του Χίτλερ. Είναι ένα βιβλίο που μόλις το τελείωσεις σε βάζει σε αρκετές σκέψεις και δεν μπορείς παρά να κάνεις συνειρμούς με τη σημερινή εποχή. Πιστε'υω πως είναι ένα βιβλίο που πρέπει να το διαβάσεις για να καταλάβεις.

Η Σκια του Ανέμου αποτέλεσε την πρώτη μου επαφή με τον συγγραφέα και μπορώ να πω με σιγουριά πως με έκανε να θέλω να διαβάσω και άλλα από τα βιβλία του. Το συγκεκριμένο είναι ένα από τα καλύτερα βιβλία που έχω διαβάσει μέχρι στιγμής το 2018. Μου άρεσε τόσο ο τρόπος γραφής του συγγραφέα όσο και η υπόθεση του βιβλίου. Σε ορισμένα σημεία η πλοκή εξελισσόταν λίγο αργά αλλά αυτό δε με εμπόδισε από το να απολάυσω το βιβλίο. Η ιστορία ήταν καθηλωτική και ιδιαίτερα όσο πλησιάζε προς το τέλος και τη λύση του μυστηρίου που είχε αναπτυχθεί.

Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο μέσα από το οποίο βλέπουμε την ιστορία τριων γυναικών (της Celeste, της Madeline και της Jane) και την εξέλιξη της σχέσης μεταξύ τους αλλά και με τους γύρω τους. Βλέπουμε τι μπορεί να κάνει ένα μικρό ψέμα στη ζωή μας και στο πως αυτή καταλήγει να εξελιχθεί. Για να πω την αλήθεια όταν το ξεκίνησα δε με ενθουσίασε ιδιαίτερα. Καθώς όμως προχωρούσε και εξελισσόταν η πλοκή άρχισε να μου αρέσει όλο και περισσότερο και δε μπορούσα να το αφήσω μέχρι να δω πως θα καταλήξει. Το Big Little Lies ανήκει στην κατηγορία του contemporary chick lit έχοντας όμως και κάποια στοιχεία μυστηρίου καθώς από την αρχή του βιβλίου (μέσα από τις σύντομες περιγραφές που παρατίθενται και αφορούν το γεγονός αυτό) μας γίνεται γνωστό ότι έχει βρεθεί ένας νεκρός χωρίς όμως να ξέρουμε ποιος και γιατί. Η συγγραφέας ξεκινάει τα γεγονότα αντίστροφα έτσι ώστε να καταλήξει στο γεγονός αυτό. Στο βιβλίο διαπραγματεύονται και κάποια πολύ σοβαρά θέματα όπως είναι η ενδοοικογενειακή βια και οι επιπτώσεις της, οι σχέσεις γονιών - παιδιών και ο ανταγωνισμός μεταξύ γονέων. Παρουσιάζονται βέβαια με απλό τρόπο χωρίς να γίνεται ιδιαίτερη εμβάθυνση στο θέμα.

Το Lincoln in the Bardo αποτελεί το πρώτο μυθιστόρημα του γνωστού συγγραφέα George Saunders, το οποίο μας περιγράφει τι συνέβη όταν πέθανε ο εντεκάχρονος γιος του Lincoln. Η εξιστόρηση των γεγονότων γίνεται όμως με ένα πολύ ιδιαίτερο τρόπο. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο που δε μου είναι εύκολο να περιγράψω αλλά το σίγουρο είναι ότι μου άρεσε. Είναι γραμμένο με ένα εντελώς διαφορετικό τρόπο από ότι έχουμε συνηθίσει καθώς δεν έχει ένα μόνο αφηγητή αλλά πάρα πολλούς. Μου πήρε λίγο παραπάνω από ότι συνήθως για να μπω στο κλίμα του βιβλίου. Μόλις όμως το συνήθισα έγινε ένας ακόμα λόγος που μου άρεσε. Το βιβλίο κινείται πάνω σε ένα βασικό θέμα, το θάνατο του γιου του Lincoln και μέσα από αυτό μας αφηγείται και άλλες διαφορετικές ιστορίες. Ο Saunders μέσα από τις ιστορίες που μας περιγράφει μιλάει για το θάνατο, την απώλεια και την άρνηση και αυτό το κάνει με τις φωνές και τις ιστορίες των φαντασμάτων που βρίσκονται στην κρύπτη μαζί με τον Willie.

Είναι από τα βιβλία πουπεριμένεις ότι θα σου αρέσουν και που τελικά δε σε απογοητεύουν. Περιέχει άρθρα με θέμα το βιβλίο, το διάβασμα και γενικά τον αναγνώστη και τον βιβλιόφιλο. Αρκετά ήταν αυτά μέσα στα οποία αναγνώρισα τον εαυτό μου και μάλιστα και σε περιπτώσεις που δεν είχα φανταστεί. Μου άρεσε πολύ και το συστήνω σε όλους τους βιβλιόφιλους.

This was sent to me as an ARC from Netgalley and the publisher. I found the concept of the graphic novel very interesting and different from what I have read before. We follow the story of Marjorie Glatt who owns a laundromat and most of the times feels like a ghost. We also have Wendell who is a ghost. The story deals with serious issues like grief but is also very funny and leaves you feeling that at the end everything will be OK despite all the struggles and problems. The art of the book was amazing. I really liked that she used a certain palette of colours and that she captured all the necessary details for the story. I caught myself staring at the art a lot. I really liked this graphic novel and I definitely recommend to check this out

Είναι γραμμένο με τη μορφή ημερολογίου και εκτείνεται στη διάρκεια ενός έτους και συγκεκριμένα το 2014. Μέσα σε αυτό περιγ΄ραφει με απλό και αστείο τρόπο όλα όσα συμβαίνουν στο βιβλιοπωλείο, από τις παραξενιές και τις άκυρες απορίες των πελατών μέχρι τις δικές του εξορμήσεις για την απόκτηση νέων βιβλίων από συλλέκτες ή δημοπρασίες αλλά και διάφορα άλλα πάντα σχετικά με το βιλιοπωλείο και τη δική του ζωή. Αναφέρονται φυσικά και τα διάφορα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζει εξαιτίας του γνωστού σε όλους μας Amazon. To The Diary of a Bookseller είναι ένα βιβλίο που μου άρεσε πολύ και το οποίο θα αναζητήσω για να αγοράσω. Νομίζω πως είναι ένα must read για όποιον αγαπάει τα βιβλία.

Η Ζωρζ Σαρρή είναι, μαζί με την Άλκη Ζέη, από τις αγαπημένες μου. Κάθε φορά που διαβάζω ένα βιβλίο της μεταφέρομαι αμέσως στα παιδικά μου χρόνια και την πρώτη φορά που διάβασα τα βιβλία της. Το Ε.Π., είναι από τα αγαπημένα μου μαζί με Τα γενέθλια. Το βασικό του θέμα είναι η φιλία και τα γεγονότα του διαδραματίζονται λίγο πριν τον πόλεμο κατά τη διάρκεια της δικτατορίας του Μεταξά. Μιλάει για τη φιλία δύο κοριτσιών, της Ζωρζ και της Άλκης και ουσιαστικά βλέπουμε πως ξεκίνησε και πως εξελίχθηκε η φιλία της Ζωρζ Σαρρή με την Άλκη Ζέη στα χρόνια του γυμνασίου μιας και αυτη την περίοδο μας παρουσιάζει. Βλέπουμε τις δυσκολίες που πέρασαν, τους τσακωμούς αλλά και το πως πάντα κατάφερναν να συμφιλιώνονται γιατί η φιλία ήταν πάνω από όλα. Παρατηρούμε φυσικά και τα γεγονότα της περιόδου μέσα από τα μάτια των κοριτσιών και βλέπουμε κατά κάποιο τρόπο πως αντέδρασε ο κόσμος στο νέο αυτό καθεστώς.

Ήταν η πρώτη μου φορά που διάβασα το συγκεκριμένο βιβλίο και εκτός του ότι μου άρεσε πολύ κατάφερε και να με συγκινήσει, γεγονός που δε συμβαίνει πολύ συχνά με εμένα και τα βιβλία

Ένα βιβλίο διαφορετικό από ότι έχω συνηθίσει να διαβάζω, το οποίο μπορώ να πω ότι σε ορισμένα σημεία με εξέπληξε ευχάριστα. Σε γενικές γραμμές μου άρεσε αλλά με κούρασε σε κάποια σημεία. Είχε ενδιαφέρουσες ιστορίες που διαδραματίζονταν στην επαρχία της Θεσσαλίας.

Το βιβλιαράκι αυτό περιείχε σύντομες ιστορίες του συγγραφέα που ανήκουν στην κατηγορία του scifi. Στις ιστορίες αυτές φαίνεται το μέγεθος της φαντασίας του συγγραφέα και είναι όλες τους καλογραμμένες. Δεν ήταν όμως κάτι που με ξετρέλανε αλλά θα ήθελα να διαβάσω και κάτι άλλο από τον συγγραφέα για να έχω μια καλύτερη άποψη.

Αυτό το μικρό βιβλιαράκι ανήκει στη σειρά Penguin Modern και περιέχει σύντομες ιστορίες της Shirley Jackson. Ο τίτλος τυυ είναι The Missing Girl και αντισοιχεί και στην πρώτη ιστορία του βιβλιου. Συνολικά το βιβλίο περιέχει τρεις ιστορίες: The Missing Girl Ένα κορίτσι χάνεται από μια καλοκαιρινή κατασκήνωση και κανείς δεν μπορεί να το βρει. Η ιστορία είναι τόσο ωραία δοσμένη που μετά από λίγο σε κάνει να αναρωτιέσαι αν όντως το κορίτσι υπήρξε. Journey with a lady Αφορά ένα αγόρι που κάνει ένα ταξίδι με το τρένο με σκοπό να φτάσει στο σπίτι του παππού του. Στο τρένο συναντά μια κυρία, η οποία αποδεικνύεται πως είναι περισσότερο ενδιαφέρουσα από ότι φάινεται στην αρχή. Nightmare Η συγκεκριμένη ιστορία έχει την πιο περίεργη υπόθεση. Πρόκειται για μια γυναίκα που ξεκινάει να παραδώσει ένα δέμα για τον εργοδότη της στην άλλη μεριά της πόλης. Στην πορεία εμφανίζεται ένα αυτοκίνητο με μεγάφωνο που φωνάζει: "Βρείτε την Κυρία - Χ και κερδίστε!!" και η περιγραφή που δίνει για την Κυρία - Χ είναι αυτή της πρωταγωνίστριάς μας. Δεν αργεί να καταλάβει ότι η Κυρία - Χ είναι αυτή αλλά δεν μπορεί να καταλάβει τι συμβαίνει αλλά και γιατί. Το βιβλίο αυτό είναι ένα πολύ καλό δείγμα του τρόπου γραφής της Shirley Jackson που την καθιστά μία από τις καλύτερες συγγραφείς τρόμου. Μέσα από απλές καθημερινές ιστορίες καταφέρνει να σου δημιουργεί μια αίσθηση τρομακτική αλλά και ταυτόχρονα συναρπαστική. Και οι τρεις ιστορίες μου άρεσαν χωρίς να μπορώ να ξεχωρίσω ποια μου άρεσε περισσότερο . Το σίγουρο είναι ότι τώρα θέλω να διαβάσω περισσότερο από το έργο της Shirley Jackson.

Μετά το τέλος του Caraval ανυπομονούσα τόσο πολύ για την κυκλοφορία της συνέχειας. Ήθελα τόσο πολύ να ξαναμπώ στο μαγικό κόσμο του Caraval και νομίζω πως η Stephanie Garber τα κατάφερε. Από την πρώτη σελίδα είχα ήδη αρχίσει να μπαίνω στο μαγικό κόσμο του βιβλίου και να φέρνω στη μνήμη μου τα γεγονότα του προηγούμενου και το πως συνδέονται με τη συνέχεια. Για να τα πάρουμε όμως λίγο από την αρχή. Δεν ξέρω τι να πρωτοπώ. Το βιβλίο γαι εμένα ήταν υπέροχο. Μου αρέσει ο τρόπος που γράφει και περιγράφει τα γεγονότα η Stephanie Garber. Οι χαρακτήρες, η πλοκή αλλά και τα twists της ήταν εκπληκτικά. Νομίζω πως ήταν πολύ καλύτερο από το πρώτο βιβλίο της σειράς. Σε αυτό το βιβλίο αναπτύχθηκαν καλύτερα οι χαρακτήρες και μάθαμε πολλά περισσότερα για τον Legend αλλά και το Caraval. Του χρόνου το Μάιο κυκλοφορεί και το τελευταίο βιβλίο της σειράς με τίtλο Finale και ανυπομονώ να το διαβάσω για να δω πως ολοκλήρώνει την ιστορία η Stephanie Garber .

Για να πω την αλήθεια το συγκεκριμένο δεν το ευχαριστήθηκα ιδιαίτερα. Περίμενα να αναφερθεί περισσότερο στα μαθηματικά και να πλάσει το εγκώμιό τους, όπως λέει και ο τίτλος. Αντίθετα η συζήτηση, γιατί για συζήτηση/συνέντευξη πρόκειται, κινήθηκε περισσότερο στο πλαίσιο της φιλοσοφίας και τη σχέση της με τα μαθηματικά. Μικρό βιβλιαράκι, γραμμένο απλά και κατανοητά αλλά δεν ήταν αυτό που περίμενα.

Στην αρχή που το ξεκίνησα νόμιζα ότι δε θα μου αρέσει. Αυτός είναι και ο λόγος που άργησα να το τελειώσω. Όσο όμως προχωρούσε η ιστορία τόσο περισσότερο βυθιζόμουν στην πλοκή και στο κλίμα του βιβλίου και τόσο περισσότερο μου άρεσε. Είναι ένα βιβλίο διαφορετικό από άλλα και αρκετά σκοτεινό.

Πρόκειται για μια από τις ιστορίες με τον Sherlock Holmes και τον Dr. Watson που δεν είχα ξαναδιαβάσει και η οποία μου άρεσε πολύ και με έκανε να θέλω να ξαναδιαβάσω τέτοιες ιστορίες. Το βιβλίο χωρίζεται σε δύο τμήματα, με το πρώτο να είναι η εξυχνίαση του μυστηρίου και το δεύτερο να μας μεταφέρει στο παρελθόν και να μας παρουσιάζει το πως φτάσαμε στο παρόν.

Το Diamonds are forever του Ian Fleming είναι το τέταρτο βιβλίο με ήρωα τον James Bond που διαβάζω και όπως και τα προηγούμενα μου άρεσε και αυτό πολύ. Το γεγονός ότι είναι γραμμένο πάνω από 50 χρόνια πριν δικαιολογεί πολλά από τα κλισέ σε σχέση με τους χαρακτήρες και τα γεγονότα. Στο βιβλίο αυτό το κύριο θέμα είναι το λαθρεμπόριο διαμαντιών από τη Νότια Αφρική στην Αμερική μέσω Λονδίνου. Σε αυτό το pipeline μπλέκεται ο 007 για να καταφέρει να βρει την άκρη, την οποία και φυσικά βρίσκει μέσα από τις κλασικές περιπέτειες του με τους κακούς αλλά και τις γυναίκες. Όπως και σε όλα τα προηγούμενα βιβλία που έχω διαβάσει, έτσι και εδώ όλη η δράση του βιβλίου συγκεκντρώνεται στις τελευταίες 100 θα έλεγα σελίδες του βιβλίου. Στο υπόλοιπο κομμάτι ο Fleming μας δημιουργεί το κλίμα και μας εξηγεί τις καταστάσεις για αυτό που θα ακολουθήσει.

Πρόκειται για ένα κλασικό παιδικό βιβλίο, το οποίο κατάφερα να διαβάσω σχετικά πρόσφατα. Νομίζω πως η ιστορία του είναι σχετικά γνωστή. Μας μιλάει για την Anne (με e στο τέλος παρακαλώ, όχι σκέτο Ann), ένα ορφανό κορίτσι που υιοθετεί η Marila και ο αδελφός της. Περιγράφει τα χρόνια που πέρασε μαζί τους στο σπίτι τους στο Green Gables (από τα 11 της και μετά), τις περιπέτειες της, τις χαρές αλλά και τις λύπες της. Το βιβλίο είναι γραμμένο στις αρχές του 1900 κάτι το οποίο φαίνεται στον τρόπο που εξελίσσονται τα γεγονότα και στο μήνυμα που περνάει. Σε γενικές γραμμές είναι ένα βιβλίο που μου άρεσε αλλά σε συγκεκριμένα σημεία του μάλλον με κούραζε. Η Anne είναι ένα αξιαγάπητο κορίτσι γεμάτο ενέργεια, καλοσύνη και πολύ μα πολύ φαντασία. Για όλα τα πράγματα γύρω της βρίσκει κάτι καλό να πει γεγονός που σε ορισμένα σημεία με ενοχλούσε λιγάκι. Είναι τόσο αισιόδοξη που μπορεί και να σε κουράσει. Δε γίνεται πάντα όλα γύρω μας να είναι χαρούμενα και να μας ενθουσιάζουν τόσο πολύ. Θα μου πεις βέβαια πως πρόκειται για παιδικό βιβλίο και μάλιστα γραμμένο πολλά χρόναι πριν όπου τα δεδομένα και οι καταστάσεις ήταν εντελώς διαφορετικά. Προς το τέλος του όμως με συγκίνησε και μου απέδειξε ότι καλά έκανα που το διάβασα. Η ιστορία της Anne τελειώνει με τέτοιο τρόπο που σε αφήνει ικανοποιημένο. Υ.Γ. Ίσως αν το διάβαζα μικρότερη να μου άρεσε περισσότερο και για διαφορετικούς λόγους. Ποιος ξέρει;

Πρόκειται για ένα εκπληκτικό βιβλίο, το οποίο διάβασα σε ebook αλλά πρέπει να πάρω οπωσδήποτε και σε έντυπη μορφή καθώς είναι πανέμορφο. Ο λόγος για το Sea Prayer του πολύ γνωστού συγγραφέα Khaled Hosseini. Πρόκειται για μια σύντομη ιστορία, ένα picture book στην ουσία που έχει σαν θέμα του την προσφυγική κρίση. Είναι μια πολύ συγκινητική ιστορία που συμπληρώνεται και από εκπληκτική εικονογράφηση. Είναι ένα βιβλίο για όλους ανεξαρτήτως ηλικίας και εθνικότητας. Είναι μια προσευχή προς τη θάλασσα, γραμμένη σαν ένα γράμμα από τον πατέρα προς το μικρό γιο του την παραμονή της αναχώρησης τους από τη Συρία προς ένα καλύτερο μέλλον. Για να γράψει αυτή την ιστορία ο Khaled Hosseini παρακινήθηκε από την ιστορία του μικρού Alan Kurdi, του τρίχρονου που πνίγηκε στις ακτές της Τουρκίας το 2015, και ελπίζει να αποτίνει φόρο τιμής στα εκατομμύρια των οικογενειών οι οποίες έχουν σκορπιστεί και εκδιωχθεί από το σπίτι τους λόγω πολέμου. Ο συγγραφέας θα δώσει τα έσοδα του από το βιβλίο αυτό στο Γραφείο των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για τους πρόσφυγες (UNHCR) και στο Ίδρυμα Khaled Hosseini που βοηθούν στη χρηματοδότηση προσπαθειών ανακούφισης της ζωής των προσφύγων σε όλο τον κόσμο. Ο Khaled Hosseini είναι επίσης απεσταλμένος καλής θέλησης στην UNHCR και ο ιδρυτής του Ιδρύματος Khaled Hosseini, ένα μη κερδοσκοπικού χαρακτήρα ίδρυμα, που παρέχει ανθρωπιστική βοήθεια στο λαό του Αφγανιστάν. Αξίζει να το αποκτήσετε και να το διαβάσετε.

It was written in 1818 and it was the first science fiction book of its time. If you happen to not know the premise of the book, let me tell you something about it. It's about the story of Victor Frankenstein and the monstrous creature that he created, and yes the doctor is Frankenstein not the monster as a lot of people believe. On the surface, it is a novel of tense and steadily mounting horror, but on a more profound level, it offers searching illumination of the human condition in its portrayal of a scientist who oversteps the bounds of conscience, and of a monster brought to life in an alien world, ever more desperately attempting to escape the torture of his solitude. A novel of hallucinatory intensity, Frankenstein represents one of the most striking flowerings of the Romantic imagination. I read Frankenstein for the first time this autumn and I really liked it mainly because it was different from what I was expecting. It is a very beautiful but sad story and not at all scary as some people think. Frankenstein's creation was not as bad as it seems. In fact it had a good character but the circumstances, his appearance and the way people and his creator Victor treated him, made him act like this. The only thing he wanted was to be accepted and not to be alone. Victor on the other hand, wasn't a good character and I think it was very selfish and arrogant. Reading this book you can find out who the real monster is in the story.

It is described as fantastical tales of mazes, puzzles, lost labyrinths and bookish mysteries, from the unique imagination of a literary magician. This was the first time that I read something from Jorge Luis Borges and I do not know what to make out of it. I am a little bit confused. I enjoyed reading these stories but I can't say that I loved anyone particular. The first story was The Garden of Forking Paths, which started as a spy story but then it confused me. It was nothing particularly original or special. The second was The Book of Sand, which was the one I liked the most. It had a very interesting idea. The third story was The Circular Ruins and it was okay for me. The fourth one was On Exactitude in Science and it was only one page. The last story was Death and the Compass which was a kind of a mysterious Jewish mysticism-inspired serial killing. Overall, I think that the Penguin Modern Classics is a very good starting option if you want to know a new to you author. I can say that I will definitely search and read more of Jorge Luis Borges works in the future.

This is a very sweet little book about our love for books which can sometimes leads us to strange situations. The book is about books and those who love books. Those who love to read them, to collect them , to smell them and even sleep with them... It is a very original story, in my opinion. The House of Paper is a tribute to the strange and passionate relationship between people and their books. I really really liked it and I wish it could be longer than its 112 pages

Heresy is set in the universe of Assassin's Creed and through it we relive the memories of high-ranking Templar Simon Hathaway's ancestor who fought beside Joan of Arc. He slowly uncovers secrets of the past that could dangerously impact his present and that of the entire Templar order. An endless conflict. An old wrong. A new revelation. I really enjoyed reading Heresy and from all the books that I have read in this universe this is a little bit different from the normal Assassin's Creed style. It is written in a different style and it combines the present day London and Abstergo with the past (when Joan of Arc lived). The world building was good and it shows the medieval/renaissance world with authenticity and does set the scene really well. In terms of characters I liked the modern and historical characters. I really liked all the modern characters and found they really had a story of their own. The plot was well paced and had a lot of action. Lots of battle scenes as you would expect but also some good character development. There was also some surprises and shocks. It may sound weird but in this book, I liked more the parts of the book that had to do with the present. Finally I liked the ending which was something I didn't expect. (

The novel takes place in the 1920s New York and it's a glamorous, ironical and compassionate book. It is the story of Jay Gatsby who came so mysteriously to West Egg, of his sumptuous entertainments, and of his love for Daisy Buchanan – a story that ranges from pure lyrical beauty to sheer brutal realism, and is infused with a sense of the strangeness of human circumstance in a heedless universe. It is a magical, living book, blended of irony, romance, and mysticism. It is indeed a very interesting and magical story that describes perfectly the charm and glamour of the 1920s. We see the life of the mysterious Jay Gatsby through the eyes of our narrator Nick. We observe how money can make you look different in the eyes of others and how at the same time when you need them people can abandon you. It is a sad book but it is also very beautiful. The author writes very beautifully and he creates the perfect atmosphere for the novel. I wish I had read it sooner because I really liked it and it among my favorite classics.

Και τα τρια αυτά βιβλία έχουν μεταφραστεί στα ελληνικά και κυκλοφορούν από τις Εκδόσεις Αλεξάνδρια. Στο Sapiens ο συγγραφέας εξερεύνησε το παρελθόν μας και στο Homo Deus κοίταξε στο μέλλον μας. Σε αυτό όμως το βιβλίο στρέφεται στο παρόν για να μας κάνει να καταλάβουμε την πραγματική ουσία των πιο πιεστικών θεμάτων του σήμερα. Σε 21 προσιτά κεφάλαια που είναι τόσο προκλητικά όσο και βαθιά, ο συγγραφέας βασίζεται στις ιδέες που αναπτύχθηκαν στα προηγούμενα βιβλία του και ξεδιπλώνει πολιτικά, τεχνολογικά, κοινωνικά και υπαρξιακά ζητήματα, προσφέροντας ταυτόχρονα συμβουλές για το πώς να προετοιμαστεί κανείς για ένα πολύ διαφορετικό μέλλον από τον κόσμο που εμείς τώρα ζούμε και γνωρίζουμε. Πρόκειται για ένα βιβλίο που μου άρεσε και που με έκανε να σκεφτώ πολλά διαφορετικά θέματα που δεν μου είχαν περάσει καν από το μυαλό. Ασχολείται με πολλά θέματα του 21ου αιώνα και το πως αυτά εξελίσσονται και θα μας επηρεάσουν.

I loved this book, especially as the plot was moving on and the story of Eli and Victor developed. It is a very original story, where we do not follow the classic hero but on the contrary the "anti-hero" or the villain of the story. The villain is our protagonist and that is very fascinating, as you can see how the characters develop through the story. It is a dark story and it's very different from anything else from V. E. Schwab that I have read before. It is also a fast paced book with a lot of action. The way it is written makes it more thrilling to read. I can't wait to read Vengeful, the sequel to the story, and of course you should definitely read this one.

This book was in my tbr for a long time and the hype about it was big, and it still is. We watch the events that take place after an attack at Kerenza IV and the efforts of Kady, Ezra and the rest of the survivors and rescuers to understand what is going on and to reach a safe place. During the book a lot happen. Some of them are good and some not so much. An important part in the story plays AIDAN the AI of the spaceship that wants to protect the fleet, but with any cost... There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot that you do not expect and the fact that the book is written in a mix-media form makes it even better. I also really liked the characters, especially Kady. She is smart, brave and funny and I liked the way her relationship with Ezra developed through the whole series. One negative for me was the fact that it was a little slow at the beginning but that didn't last much

This is the second book in the series and in this one we follow the events that happened at Jump Station Heimdal through the adventures of two new characters, Hanna and Nik. There were many twists here too, that sometimes they left you open-mouthed. I liked it a little bit more than the first one and made me to anticipate the last one even more

In this little book (only 160 pages) we follow a little hen named Sprout. Her dream is to hatch an egg of her own and raise her little chicken. She no longer wants to lay eggs on command. When she finally succeeds then her problems begin. she doesn't find the approval she expected and the dangers for her and her baby are a lot. The story of Sprout is very beautiful and emotional. As with her other book, The Dog Who Dared to Dream, the author manages to tell us the story with a very unique way that makes it look like a fairy tale. A fairy tale with a deeper meaning. It is an anthem for freedom, individuality and motherhood featuring a plucky, spirited heroine who rebels against the tradition-bound world of the barnyard. A hen who dares to dream...

It's the first time I read this book and I can say that I really liked it. I knew the story of The Wizard of Oz but not the details of it. It is beautifully written and with nice descriptions. The adventures of Dorothy and her friends are of course the focus of the book and they Intrigued my interest to learn more. I think that I would love it as a kid.

Ο συγγραφέας εξηγεί με όμορφο και κατανοητό τρόπο τις εννοιες του σύμπαντος. Από την ηλικία του και το πως δημιουργήθηκε μέχρι τις μαύρες τρύπες και το γεγονός ότι αποτελούμαστε τόσο εμείς όσο και τα πάντα γύρω μας από στοιχέια. Μια πολύ καλή εισαγωγή στον κόσμο του σύμπαντός

This is the last book that concludes the trilogy. I liked this one as much as I liked the previous two but I found it a little bit slow at the beginning. When we got into action though... Here we see the conclusion of the story through the POVs of our characters as they try to get back to Kerenza IV. We have also new characters to add to the mix that are a good addition to the story. About the ending of the book I will say only one thing. It was a very satisfying ending.

It is a historical fiction about the life of the famous Mata Hari. This book combines perfectly the real historical facts about her with the fictional ones the author introduced to the story. I liked it because I learned more things about this mysterious woman. After all, I always liked the way Paulo Coelho wrote. It's a small little book with a lot of information inside, it's fast paced and you cannot put it down easily.

This book is magical and lyrical. The story, the world, the characters. I loved it!!! Laini Taylor writes so beautifully. The descriptions of the places, the characters, the feelings where just amazing. It was like you were experiencing the story from the inside. Lazlo and Sarai were just perfect. Lazlo is a librarian and a bookish scholar who spent the majority of his time researching Weep, a town that once had a rich history, stories, and magic and that now everyone has forgotten. I loved him!! I am looking forward to read the next book, Muse of Nightmares, because that ending left me wanting more.

It is about 96-year-old Doris, who writes down the memories of her eventful life as she pages through her decades-old address book. When Doris was a girl, she was given an address book by her father, and ever since she has carefully documented everyone she met and loved throughout the years. Looking through the little book now, Doris sees the many crossed-out names of people long gone and is struck by the urge to put pen to paper. In writing down the stories of her colorful past—working as a maid in Sweden, modelling in Paris during the 30s, fleeing to Manhattan at the dawn of the Second World War—can she help Jenny (her grandniece), haunted by a difficult childhood, unlock the secrets of their family. Many reviews say that this book is perfect for people who liked The Little Paris Bookshop and The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared. I found The Red Address Book to be a very beautiful and heartwarming book. I really liked the way Doris narrated her story through her address book and the people in it. You could say that this some kind of a historical fiction as the author goes between past and present in a very smooth and beautiful way. When I was reading about Doris' past I could very well draw a picture of the story in my mind. You can see her story through the 30s , WWII and also her present story and the surprises her life still holds for her. Last but certainly not least, the ending of the book was beautifully done and also very emotional.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a book by the amazing storyteller Roald Dahl and was published in 1964. Roald Dahl knows how to tell you a story and he does it very very well every time. The way Roald Dahl describes everything in the Willy Wonka chocolate factory is incredible. You just feel like you are in there and you want to touch everything. I have read Roald Dahl books before but this one I hadn't read and I knew the story only from the movie, which helped me visualize what I was reading. Obviously the Oompa Loompas are my favourite. Charlie and his Grandpa were perfect. They were humble and sweet, and Willy Wonka himself was lovely and I liked how sarcastic he was.

From Russia With Love is Ian Fleming's fifth James Bond novel and it was published in 1957. I am slowly making my way through the James Bond novels by the incredible Ian Fleming. This one was a little different from the previous ones because we got to see James Bond after page 130, which was a little odd. That of course didn't bother me and it didn't affect the way I enjoyed the book. It had all the classic James Bond tropes that I love and all the necessary adventures. It is full of action and intrigues.

The book is a very loose retelling of the story of Rumpelstiltskin and you would recognize some elements of it like turning things into gold and the importance of names. The books of Naomi Novik have this magical and atmospheric thing that you want from a fairy tale. Well, what can I say about this book... I really liked it and that's why I gave it 4 stars at the end. But I had my issues with it. It was very slow paced for me in some places and the multiple POVs (I think I counted six) sometimes confused me. It would be better with less narrators in my opinion. Despite that it still kept me captivated from the beginning until the end . It is a magical and very atmospheric book. I liked the story and how the author managed to compile so many aspects of it into one which made sense during the book. I liked the characters and in the end I was rooting for the Winter King. I loved the world building and the description of places and scenery was amazing.

Unfortunately this collection of short stories isn't for me. I can't say I didn't like it at all, because there were stories that I enjoyed. From the nine stories I really liked two of them and two more were okay. The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate, which had time travel and some magic into it. The Lifecycle of Software Objects, which was about A.I. as pets and it was very thoughtful and beautiful story. Of course, no one can deny that Ted Chiang writes in a stunningly original, provocative, and poignant way. The collection includes stories that were previously published in magazines or anthologies but there are also two brand new stories. The first seven stories were the "old" ones and the last two, Ompalos and Anxiety is the Dizziness of Freedom, were the new ones. I also liked some aspects of the new stories. Overall, I think that this book was not aimed me but at people who are more familiar with science fiction that I am. If you enjoy science fiction and Ted Chiang stories and writing, I think you will love this collection

Tο βιβλίο Everything, everything της Nicola Yoon , το οποίο είναι ένα young adult, romance, contemporary βιβλίο. Είναι δηλαδή ένα είδος που δε συνηθίζω να διαβάζω, αλλά στο συγκεκριμένο επειδή είχα ακούσει πολλά καλά έδωσα μια ευκαιρία και το διάβασα. Ευτυχώς δε με διέψευσε. Η ιστορία με κρατούσε πάντα σε ενδιαφέρον και δεν το άφηνα από τα χεέρια μου καθώς ήθελα να δω πως θα εξελιχθεί η πλοκή και να μάθω περισσότερα για τους δυο πρωταγωνιστές, Madeline και Olly. Είναι μια όμορφη ιστορία, καλογραμμένη και ιδιαίτερη. Μου άρεσε ο τρόπος που εξελίχθηκε η ιστορία και το πως διαμορφώθηκαν οι χαρακτήρες κατά την πορεία της. Η συγγραφέας περιγράφει με πολύ ωραίο τρόπο τα συναισθήματα του πρώτου εφηβικού έρωτα, του πρώτου φιλιού και του πως διαμορφώνεται και αλλάζει η ζωή σου από αυτά. Οι κριτικές που είχα διαβάσει έλεγαν ότι πρόκειται για ένα μυθιστόρημα που αποδεικνύει πόσο συναρπαστικό μπορεί να είναι όταν βγαίνουμε από το καβούκι μας και κάνουμε πράγματα τρελά για την αγάπη. Το βιβλίο περιέχει και ορισμένες εικονογραφημένες σελίδες από το σύζυγο της συγγραφέως, David Yoon, που συμπληρώνουν την ιστορία και δίνουν μια άλλη διάσταση στο νόημα της ιστορίας.

I enjoyed reading about Quidditch and its history. This book (and the others in Hogwarts Library) is a very good companion book for the Harry Potter fans.

I can tell you from the beginning that this has become one of my favorite books of 2019 and not only. It's the first book in The Blood and Stars series with the second book Unravel the Stars coming out in July 2020. When I read the synopsis of this book I wasn't so interested in it, but when I started reading it I was very pleasantly surprised. I love the story, the characters and the world that Elizabeth Lim has created. The writing is just beautiful. I really liked the pacing of the book which was fast and kept you interested and engaged all the time. I loved the characters and especially Edan who is amazing.

I liked the story and how fast-paces it was. It contained a cast of remarkable characters and it was an adventure-packed storytelling. Because it is a screenplay, it read much more quickly than a regular book which is not a bad thing in my opinion. This allowed you to create the scene in your head even if you haven't seen the movie.

I liked this one more than the first one. Maybe it was the plot or the characters, I don't know for sure, but I liked that it had more action and mystery in it. With this one I had seen the movie before reading the book and probably this added to my overall experience of the book. It was nice to see my favorite characters to come back and also to discover new ones.

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, the first book in The Folk of Air series is full of hype but let me tell you that the hype is real in this case. Magic, fairies and politics all in one book. What else do you need? We have beautiful writing as always by Holly Black and a very good story with an excellent world building. The politics in this book are huge. It's like Game of Thrones but in the fae world. The book is full of intrigue, plotting, scheming and of course plot twists until the very end. There is a strong female main character (Jude), who manages to come through everything. There is also Prince Cardan who is just beautifully cruel.

I love books like this one. Books about books and imaginary lands. This is a collection of essays regarding imaginary lands from famous authors and map designers. It's full of images of maps, old and new, that belong to fictional lands, lands from some of our favorite books.

I really enjoyed reading Little Women. The four sisters are incredible and each one has a unique character. Jo is a tomboy, Meg is the romantic one, Beth is shy and sweet and Amy is a little bit spoiled. This book is about family, sisterhood, happiness, kindness and love. It's a book that makes you happy when you read it.

These books were in my TBR for a long time, so it was time to get started. I don't know why I hesitated so long. Maybe because I have heard many things about them. Well, after reading Stalking Jack the Ripper I can say that I really really like it and I can't wait to read Hunting Prince Dracula (especially since it takes place in Romania where I live now). Anyway, back to SJTR, It is a historical fiction YA book based on the story of Jack the Ripper (obviously). We follow Audrey Rose and Thomas in their attempts to find who Jack the Ripper is. Kerri Maniscalco writes beautifully and I loved how she combined the real events with the fictional. The story is full of twists and turns until the very end. At some parts, where they described the victims, it was a little bit creepy. Audrey Rose is an intelligent character that pushes the boundaries of societal norms in Victorian London without any hesitation. She is ahead of her time. Then we have the incredibly charming Thomas, he is sassy and smart. While pursuing Jack the Ripper they come closer and the relationship between them is perfect. They are a very powerful couple. To sum it up, Stalking Jack the Ripper is a very good story with suspense and great characters (Thomas for me). By the way, at the end we get to find out who Jack the Ripper is but you won't see this coming.

The Assassin's Creed universe is one of my favourites. I love reading the books in the series. The Last Descendants is a kind of spin-off trilogy where we see the story taking place in our time with the necessary Animus simulations of course. It centers around the history of Genghis Khan and his descendants. I like the writing and the story but it's not one of my favourites. It is of course better then the first one, in my opinion. The characters are spot-on and I am curious to see what comes next for them

This is the first time I read anything from Sarah J. Maas and after reading The Assassin's Blade, I think I should have done it earlier. Back to the book now. I really liked it and I cannot wait to continue with the rest of the series. The word Assassin in a book synopsis is my weakness. I love anything to do with them and this book thankfully was no exception. It is action packed and fast-paced and I really enjoyed the writing of SJM. Every story is griping and reveals something from Celaena's past. I loved Sam and I think he was perfect for Celaena. Celaena on the other hand is a character that you love to hate with her flaws but also with her strength and determination. The story is making me happy at same points and at others angry and sad. The world sounds amazing and I want to explore it more. My favourite of the five novellas is the third one, The Assassin and the Red Desert where we meet the Silent Assassins.

It is set in the Assassin's Creed universe that I love which is why I picked it up in the first pace. It was a good book but I didn't enjoyed it as much as the other Assassin's Creed books. The story was good and it was executed good enough but my main problem was the fact tat the majority of the story took place in the present and not in the past, as I am used to by the other books. I prefer the Assassin's Creed books I read to be entirely in the past and not mentioning Abstergo and Animus at all. That said I will continue with series.

A new favourite

Today we are going to talk about a book I have heard so many good things about. I am talking about An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Thankfully the rumors were true and now I cannot stop thinking about it. I loved this book and I can't wait to read the next one. Fortunately it is already on my selves. When Laia’s grandparents are brutally murdered and her brother arrested for treason by the empire, the only people she has left to turn to are the rebels. But in exchange for their help in saving her brother, they demand that Laia spy on the ruthless Commandant of Blackcliff, the Empire’s greatest military academy. Should she fail it’s more than her brother’s freedom at risk . . . Laia’s very life is at stake. There, she meets Elias, the academy’s finest soldier. But Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined – and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself. I loved the way Sabaa Tahir wrote the story and the characters. It's like you were there with them. It is fast-paced, action packed from the beginning and with many twists. Elias is my favourite. He is a warrior but at the same time thoughtful and caring. Laia is also a favourite of mine. She starts as weak and vulnerable but her goal to save her brother makes her fierce and determined. For me all the characters throughout the book are very well developed. There are a lot more things (secrets, betrayals etc.) to be revealed in the future for all the characters and I cannot wait.

Relevant even today

It's a SF book that tells the story of Genly AI, an emissary to Winter, an alien world where there is no gender for its inhabitants. Every month they choose and change between male and female. Genly's mission is to persuade Winter to join a growing intergalactic civilization, the Ekumen. This book is a political thriller that turns to an adventure as Genly and Estraven cross the frozen landscape. This trip through the frozen land was amazingly well written and even if it was only two chapters, you could feel and sympathize with the characters. In the story we had the building up of tension (sexual, romantic, human) between Genly and Estraven especially through their journey together, the escape across the ice (the cold, the danger, the truth and the love). It's also one major feminist SF. There is no gender in Gethen, it's an am-bisexual society and this is difficult for Genly to comprehend. The book has a very dynamic plot but at the same time a very good character development. Excellent world building and descriptions. It's an exploration of fluid gender, sexuality and race (Genly is black & the rest of the Gethenians have various skin colours). It's a thought provoking book and highly relevant today as it was back in the 60s.

Η σκέψη της να υπάρχουν τέσσερα διαφορετικά Λονδίνα είναι πολύ καλή και καταφέρνει πολύ καλά να τα δημιουργήσει και να ζωντανέψουν μέσα από τις σελίδες του βιβλίου. Επίσης μου άρεσε και η πλοκή του βιβλίου που όπως είναι αναμενόμενο έχει τα σκαμπανευάσματά της

A beautiful intro to the series

knew that The Witcher books existed but it was the Netflix TV show that pushed me to start reading them and of course I loved the first one I read. The writing and the world building are amazing and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books. This one is a collection of short stories and it's kind of a prequel to the main series. We are introduced to Geralt and Dandelion (Jaskier int the show) and the rest of the world. The stories are re-imaginings of classic fairy tales like Snow White and The Beauty and the Beast. It is also fast-paced and action packed which is something I really appreciate in fantasy books (and in books in general). I also liked that the stories are connected between them and they act like flashbacks in Geralt's story. They work like they are a full novel and not a collection of stories.
