Whenever I've watched an interview or film with Minnie Driver, understated is definitely not the word that comes to mind. I didn't listen to this for the hot takes or for the scoop, which is just as well, because this memoir is a lot more than that. It's about the journey of a life, ongoing and beautiful and painful at the same time, with a pain so personal that is most universal. The book reads so much like a novel that I often had to remind myself it is a memoir. Rather than contemplating the author's choices for the made-up protagonist that lead to their decisions and personal growth, I am faced with the realisation that no, actually, this is a real person and these are their actual circumstances and thoughts they were dealing with. A delightful surprise in each chapter enhanced by the enamouring narration by the author herself (I stand by the opinion that memoirs narrated by the authors should always be listened to). The interview with the author at the end is a great touch!
